AI Design Guild
I was a founding member of a small guild of designers focused on the education and up-skilling of peers and cross-functional partners within IBM's AI Applications business Unit.

My face the first time I sat in a call with the data science team.
Competance, Confidence,
& Better Experiences
Education
Educated our designers on AI topics that they were genuinely interested in, & introduced many designers to their peers and SME partners in AI for the first time!
Opened up new lines of communication & built trust between disciplines.

Resources
Bridged knowledge gaps with handy resources like a shared AI glossary and consolidated library of toolkits & learning.

"Hands-on" toolkit sessions built fluency and confidence in our designers. These tool kits had been published for months, but were almost entirely unused by our business unit before the Guild sessions.

AI Design Ambassadors
For initiatives with embedded ambassadors
-
Increased product team collaboration and understanding of AI as measured by overall sentiment and demonstrated fluency.
-
Increased user satisfaction and engagement with the AI in their products due to a focus on trust & transparency.

Peer-led learning sessions included topics like "what types of AI do we have?"

Designers started inviting Data-Scientists to white boarding sessions.
Scaling a community
Like minds
As we shared out our work for critique across the company, we met like-minded folks in other business units. Moving into the new year, we merged into one, federated AI Design Guild for all of IBM.

Focus: Quality, Explainability, Trust
As a core member of the AI Quality team, I co-authored 8 Heuristics for Evaluating AI Quality.* Peer reviewed by AI experts across the company, these heuristics were conveyed into a collaborative format for teams to self-evaluate their in-progress AI Product Designs.

These heuristic self-evaluations were used by product teams to set a baseline of their AI Quality before shipping code, and follow-up on progress made against areas of weakness

Legacy
The AI Design Guild continues to be a fixture of learning and growth for IBMer's designing for humans using AI, and continues to share select outcomes and materials with the design community at large. I'm proud to have been a part of it's early days.
